APPLICATION oF Robust DATA SCALE ESTIMATES for improving THE accuracy of the noise variance evaluation on images

A method for blind evaluation of additive noise variance based on mode evaluation of distribution of the local variance estimates obtained on the image homogeneous regions, is considered. The possibility of accuracy improvement by means of robust local variance estimates applying is studied. The comparative analysis of several robust estimates is carried out, their distributions’ features are analyzed, the modifications of the methods for the mode position determining are proposed. The results of numerical simulations for different test images confirming the efficiency of the proposed blind variance evaluation method are presented.
